RaShad Sanders

RaShad Sanders spent time in California, Washington, D.C. and Detroit before his family settled in Huntington. He attended and graduated from Huntington High School where he played football and ran track. He continued his education at Marshall University, earning his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and starting his master’s degree.

He started his working career at The Herald-Dispatch. He also worked for three years at the Prestera Center, mentoring at-risk youth before going to work at Marshall University in the purchasing department. He worked a short stint at Special Metals before being hired as the executive director of the Fairfield Community Development Corporation.

Sanders also a DJ and musician. He has assisted local churches and choirs by volunteering to play the keyboard, drums or bass guitar. He has been active with his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha.

Sanders held the position of president of the Marshall University Alumni Association from 2019 – 2022; chapter president and Grad Advisory Committee of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity from 2015 – 2021; and chapter president of the NuNu Chapter, Marshall University, from 2003-2007. He was a member of the executive committee of Fairfield U from  2017-19 and served as chair of the Mayor’s Diversity Advisory Committee in 2022. He is vice president of Fully Loaded DJs and the DJ Coalition. Sanders also was a basketball coach for the Upward League and is serving on the executive oversight committee for the West Virginia Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He worked as a counselor for HSTA from 2006-2007 and served as a member of the Marshall University Lecture Series as a musician, poet and organizer.

He is a member of the Huntington Children’s Museum; Marshall University WV Minority Institute; Fairfield Alliance; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Breathe to Achieve Mentor Program; Marshall University Alumni Association; Fairfield U; International DJ Café; College of Business Management Institute; Fully Loaded DJs; the Mayor’s Diversity and LGBTQ and Advisory Committee; Jewel City Kickball League and Gamer’s to Game Changers.

Sanders loves Huntington and has a special place in his heart for the Fairfield community and the people who live there. His desire is to assist with the resurgence of the Fairfield community and work to preserve its historical culture and infrastructure.
