Angel Plante

Florence Plante, affectionately known as Angel, is a lifelong resident of Huntington and a longtime member of Young Chapel A.M.E. Church where she serves on the board as steward and treasurer. She also is founder and director of the Rainbow Music Ministry, president of the Senior Choir, treasurer of the Mary F. Handy Missionary Society and established the C. R. Lockhart Library (a joint effort with her mother).

Plante also is a volunteer at Ebenezer Medical Outreach for the “Save Our Sisters” community outreach program and is on the advisory board of Lifeseeds, LLC, a professional development firm. She also is a youth council advisor and West Virginia State Conference NAACP secretary. She has received numerous awards for her work in the church, community and NAACP on the local, state and applicable district levels.

Plante has received the Outstanding Citizen/Community Service Award from the West Virginia Bar Association and the Pete Goodson Award by the Black Pastors Ministerial Alliance.

She has served as president of the board of directors at Barnett Child Care Program; A.D. Lewis Community Center Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Programs Evaluation Team Leader; Planning Committee of Huntington’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration; board member at Scott-Taylor Community Center; temporary Scout leader for Boy Scouts of America at Spring Hill Elementary School; parent assistant with Girl Scouts of America and member of Title I Parent Advisory Council at Spring Hill Elementary School.

Plante worked for Williams Funeral Home; executive assistant/EEO at Tri-State Opportunities Industrialization Centers of America, Inc.; and later retiring as director of administrative operations at Southwestern West Virginia Region 2 Workforce Investment Board.
