Lawrence Peters Sr.

Deputy Sheriff

Lawrence Peters, affectionately known as “Pete,” worked as a bailiff for Cabell Circuit Judge David B. Daugherty, a Cabell County deputy sheriff, and as a detective for the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office.

He served on numerous boards including the Huntington Police Civil Service Board, the Draft Board, the Governor’s Committee on Crime and Delinquency, the J.W. Scott Board and the Ebenezer Outreach Center Board. He was a member of the Huntington Human Relations Commission, the Huntington Park Board and the Huntington Housing Authority.

Peters did not seek recognition for his contributions to his community. He worked quietly on those things that were important to him and things he determined would be helpful for the advancement of all people from the youngest to the oldest. He wanted to ensure that things were done decently and in order. He was a man of faith, and he was a man for the times in which he lived. He tried to make his corner of the world better and brighter and encouraged others while making sacrifices through hard work and dedication.
