Nicole Jackson, RN, BSN

Nicole Jackson, RN, BSN-BC is a Board Certified Registered Nurse currently serving as a Cabell County School Nurse as well as a Hospice Nurse. She began her nursing career over 30 years working in pediatrics at John Marshall when there were few black nurses in this area. Many local children received immunizations and other care from her hands.

While in nursing school she received the following awards: the Joseph Slash Scholarship Award, the Jill Lewis Scholarship Award, and the Black Pastor’s Association Scholarship. She was also selected to speak at a banquet on behalf of all scholarship recipients at Marshall University.

Her profession has afforded her many opportunities but a highlight of her career was co-writing the Threat Preparedness Response Plan for this county while employed by the Cabell Huntington Health Department as a Public Health Nurse and Nurse Epidemiologist. She was on the front lines of the Covid-19 response for this county as a member of the Medical Reserve Corp educating, screening and vaccinating citizens in outside clinics until we could be safely indoors again. She started a forum called Nurse Talk to specifically educate and dispel myths that were circulating in the black community at that time. During the pandemic, you could see her on commercials and also posters utilized by the MRC. Her healthcare experience has enabled her to be a knowledgeable and fierce advocate for the healthcare needs of those in this community.

Her love for people compelled her to start an organization called Girl Talk. This provided a space and opportunity for women to connect and talk about life’s joys and challenges. She strived to bridge the gap between women from all walks of life with the goal being to link them with vital resources relating to mental & physical health, employment and finances. Girl Talk hosts an annual community Thanksgiving event called Girls-Giving for women and their families.

Nicole hosted Huntington’s first (PAILS) Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness event several years ago and this was covered by the news. PAILS is a national holiday but, for many years, in our area there were no events to recognize this.

When she is not hosting, you can find her volunteering in many capacities for organizations such as the Fairfield CDC, the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program, Hospice of Huntington, CHHD, Positive People Association and the Junior League.

Nicole is a certified CPR instructor and Nurse Life Coach and has offered her services to the community over the years.

Raised in the church, God has always been an integral part of her life and she spent many hours volunteering there as well. She served as adult and youth choir directress. Her spirited youth choir performed at halftime at a DC Express game, at Marshall University and also at WVU during Black History Month as well as in national competitions. They also participated in local parades. The Women’s Ministry won first place nationally 3 years in a row under her leadership for the group’s accomplishments in our community.

Nicole is a graduate of both St. Mary’s School of Nursing and Marshall University and resides in Huntington West Virginia.
