John Martin Jr.

John A. Martin Jr. attended Columbus State College where he was on the Dean’s List and majored in electronics engineering. He served in the Air Force as a Missile Launch Facility Technician.

He accepted the call of God to preach the gospel in December 1975. He has served as a pastor for 27 years, first at Union Gospel Church in Columbus, Ohio, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Coshocton, Ohio, Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Huntington and Encouragers Fellowship Church in Huntington.

He served as the co-host for the Christian Television Channel 30 for two years in Columbus, Ohio. He was the past president of the Tribe of Israel and was on the board of directors for the Ohio State University Campus Ministries, the board of directors for the Columbus Literacy Council and the board of advisors for the Columbus Ohio Board of Education. He was the 2^nd vice president of the Columbus Ministries Alliance and was a great revivalist for the Columbus Baptist Simultaneous Revival for 26 years.

Martin has served as the treasurer for the Black Pastor Ministerial Association in Huntington, was on the board of advisors for the Huntington United Way and the Renaissance Rehabilitation Center for Women and Children. He served as president of the Fairfield West Improvement Council; was a member of the Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities; served on the Board of Advisors for the Huntington Police Budget Committee; served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity; and served on the board of directors for Mission Tri-State. He was a member of the Tri-State Pastors Group, which believes in affecting change for the Tri-State through prayer, and was one of the founders of Taking Back the Community and giving it back to God through marches and prayers for the City of Huntington. Martin served on the board of advisors for Believe WV, an organization dedicated to bringing Christian economics and social change to the state. He was awarded the Outstanding Citizen Award by Mayor Jean Dean.

On March 15, 2003, Martin was canonized Bishop at the Prophetic Miracle Ministries, King of Glory Church. The Bishop has the call of the five-fold ministry gifts of pastor and teacher. Martin graduated from Victory Bible Training Center in May of 2011.

Martin died in 2018, and the church is now led by his wife, Evangelist Phyllis Martin.
