Fran Jackson

Fran Jackson was born in Charles Town, West Virginia.  After graduation from Mount Hope High School, she came to Marshall University and earned her bachelor’s degree. After graduation, she was employed in the University’s Minority Students Center, working as the program’s administrative assistant.  She taught several classes on campus, including New Student Seminar and classes in the Community and Technical College. She was the coordinator of the Women of Color Program.

She was active with many organizations. She was president of the Huntington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc., president of Marshall University’s Black Alumni Association, president of the Getaway Club in Charleston and a member of the Black Swan Book Club.

Fran was a mentor, confidant, mother and big sister to many students at Marshall University. She was dedicated to making sure students excelled in the classroom as well as socially in activities and organizations on Marshall’s campus. She listened to their concerns and directed them to the services they needed to be successful.
