Fred Hornbuckle

Fred Hornbuckle was born in Uniontown, Alabama, and moved to Huntington to work at Connors Steel (now known as West Virginia Steel) and raise a family. He was one of the pioneers in the food truck industry in Huntington and the Black community.

Aside from being a food truck owner, restaurant owner and laborer at Connors Steel, Hornbuckle was a well-respected coach in the Fairfield community. He was most known for his impact on coaching and developing many young men in the Tri-State who went on to become professional athletes. He and his wife, Joyce, adopted more than 10 children, bringing them into their home to become a part of their family.

Fred was a volunteer at the Ebony Golf Classic, he coached at the YMCA and he was an AAU coach. He also was a member of the YMCA, NAACP and Encouragers Fellowship Church.
