Charles Smith
Charles H. Smith was the Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Huntington from 1960 – 1980 During his tenure there he launched church community outreaches, including a grocery store, fish market, restaurant, credit union, a state supplemented day care, and established and constructed Rotary Gardens, 150 housing units for low-income families. He was also the Director of the Tri-State OIC of Huntington.
He was a Civil Rights Activist and leader. He was National Deputy Director of the NAACP, leading the march on Boston for school Desegregation
He was a member of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
